OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning)

Exciting News! We’re Becoming an OPAL School

We’ve joined the OPAL Primary Programme, a nationally recognised initiative that will help us completely transform how we use our outdoor space at playtime, and we’d love your help along the way!

What is OPAL?

OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) is about giving children the freedom, space and materials to enjoy amazing, high-quality play every day. It’s not just about making playtimes ‘nicer’ – it’s about making them magical, meaningful and vital to their development.

We’re now on an 18-month journey with support from an OPAL mentor to help us rethink how play is planned for, resourced and celebrated here at school. We’ve seen the difference this can make and want to make sure every single child benefits.

How You Can Get Involved:

We’re not asking you to become playtime experts, but we do need your enthusiasm and support!

Here's how you can help:

Get Curious - Ask us questions, share your ideas and get excited with us!
Donate Specific Items - We’ll soon share a clear list of resources we’re collecting to support the programme. If you have something on that list, we’d love to receive it. Kindly don’t bring us items not listed - we’re keeping our storage focused and clutter-free.
Join Us for Breakfast - We’ll be hosting a parent breakfast soon to show you what OPAL is all about.
Come and Play! - Once we’re up and running, you’ll be invited to come and experience OPAL in action with your child.

What to Expect Next:

  • We’re still in the early stages - we don’t have a set launch date just yet, but we’re aiming for summertime.

  • You’ll soon receive our donation list (and a polite reminder to stick to it!)

  • We’ll be confirming dates for the breakfast info session and the parent play session soon.

This isn’t an overnight change, it’s a carefully supported journey, but we’re so excited about what this will bring to our school community.
